Meet Danielle Bell – A Glow Group Body Inclusive Dietitian

Meet Danielle (Dani) Bell – A Glow Group Body Inclusive Dietitian

Welcome, we are so glad you are here.

Healthcare can be an overwhelming space, particularly when trying to find the right clinician to fit your needs.

By way of introducing Glow Group and our philosophies, we thought it may be helpful to share a little more ourselves, our lives and the reason we feel such a strong connection to the work we do each and every day.

Thank you for being here.

Dani’s Story

I reflect on my journey to becoming a Non-Diet Dietitian as the result of the right combination of ingredients. My love of biology and human physiology, my natural tendency as ‘a helper’, and, unfortunately, my own personal turmoil with my relationship with food and my body.

I was fortunate enough to have exposure to the possibility of being a ‘different’ Dietitian, from the beginning of my career. I knew I did not have to be a stereotypical weight loss Dietitian. Thank goodness, because I knew I did not want to contribute to a culture of fear, shame and self-criticism about what we eat and how we look.  Glow Group allows me to be a Dietitian that aims to empower people to peel back the layers of ‘stuff’ that makes food difficult for them. To explore and accommodate what is best for their lives, and their wellbeing, and help them step back from what they think they “should be” doing.

Keys to Me

So, here’s just a little about me, my life, and how I like to practise.

/ I value listening to my clients. I believe in the power of deep listening as a pathway to reduce suffering.

/ I respect the pace my clients wish to work at. I understand how challenging behaviour change can be. I do not judge my clients for struggling with their ‘homework’.

/ My clients will always be my teachers. Their lived experience about their relationship with food and their body image will always be heard and respected in my sessions.

/ I am committed to doing my best to deliver weight inclusive, neuroaffirming, and trauma informed care. Dietetics, and my work with my clients, is about so much more than food.

Loves

/ Animals; great and small, far and wide. Feel free to ask me about my cat!

/ Going on walks near the water, or to get a pastry

/ Travelling to new places

Hates

/ Onion (controversial, I know!)

/ The focus society (and unfortunately many medical/health spaces) places on body weight/shape/size

/ How the media/social media create so much fear around food, and often misrepresent real science
