Meet Amy Gordon – A Glow Group Body Inclusive Dietitian

Meet Amy Gordon – A Glow Group Body Inclusive Dietitian

Welcome, we are so glad you are here.

Healthcare can be an overwhelming space, particularly when trying to find the right clinician to fit your needs.

By way of introducing Glow Group and our philosophies, we thought it may be helpful to share a little more ourselves, our lives and the reason we feel such a strong connection to the work we do each and every day.

Thank you for being here.

Amy’s Story

I decided to become a Dietitian after healing from my own journey through diet culture and searching for a career that combined my love of nutrition, science and helping others.

Throughout my degree I was lucky enough to connect with mentors and students who like me, had been introduced to intuitive eating, and felt strongly about nurturing health and wellbeing in an inclusive and non-judgmental way. This led me to non-diet and weight-neutral approaches (hooray!) which have shaped how I practise today.

After graduating, I worked as a hospital Dietitian across various clinical areas. Often surrounded by medicalised weight bias, I found myself constantly challenging the status quo, asking colleagues and patients to get curious about unlearning weight-centric beliefs and reminding them of the joy and connection to be found in food.

I feel very lucky to have found such a supportive, kind and likeminded community at Glow.

Keys to Me

  • I value reflection and self-compassion. I am dedicated to ensuring my clients feel heard, validated and supported when sharing lived experiences, worry and joy about food, their body and health
  • I have a holistic approach and believe individuals are the experts in their own lives…one-size-fits-all thinking isn’t my vibe. I guide individuals to explore nutrition and health non-judgmentally and in a way that is most meaningful to them.
  • I am a former ‘fussy eater’ (…or maybe current depending on who you ask) and Mum to one little foodie. I believe our earliest life experiences have an enormous influence on our lifelong relationship with food. I follow responsive, pressure-free and nurturing approaches when supporting families and little ones.
  • My university honours research explored the nutrition needs of consumers living with severe mental illness. I continue to enjoy research in this space and recognise the complex interrelationship between nutrition and mental health in my practise.
